Beware of the New Trick Used by Bolt Drivers

Amidst the many complaints by the Kenyan taxi drivers, especially those on the Bolt platform, about the rising cost of fuel, the platform has not considered this and done a price review; some of them have devised ways of "stealing" from innocent clients.

Normally, when you request a ride, the price charged is indicated, and the client decides whether they will pick that specific ride. So on Wednesday, a friend of mine used Bolt to request a ride from Nairobi West to Upper Hill. From the app, the amount was 260 shillings, and up to the point when she was almost alighting, the amount was still the same.

So when he reached his destination, he paid the Bolt guy the 260 bob, but to his surprise, he was informed that the cost was 380 shillings. "How is this possible, yet it was 240?" He gently asked because he did not want to cause any altercations. The guy informed him that she should confirm from his side, and true to his word, the amount was 380 shillings. When he told me about it, I asked him what could have resulted in the change of the prices, yet it was initially 260.

After reading the Bolt's terms and conditions, we realised that rogue drivers can take a longer route or fail to stop the fare meter of the Bolt App after the Transportation Services have been completed. So this might have happened to my friend because he told me the bolt guy used a longer route, saying, "This is the route directed by the app, and if I go against it, the client will be charged a higher price."
I asked him to launch a complaint with Bolt because this is wrong.
Tell a friend to tell a friend.
